Inspired by avant-garde fashion and textiles, artist Nicole Helen Brunner creates pieces that are reminiscent of elaborate haute couture clothing. Nicole’s Calliope Vessel was created with clay coils using handbuilding techniques to create an asymmetrical vessel reminiscent of couture necklines that highlight the wearer, which in this case are flowers. Nicole then smothered this vessel in a frost white porcelain slip that shrinks at a different rate than the cay body that the vessel was created in which causes the surface to crack and create a textural experience almost ancient in feeling.
